The Frances O. Smith Scholarship, established by Inspired Now Networks, Inc., embodies a profound commitment to education, leadership, and community service. Named in honor of Frances O. Smith, a beacon of compassion and dedication, this scholarship seeks to empower students and recognize the transformative impact of service and creativity.

Frances O. Smith’s legacy is one of tireless advocacy for marginalized communities. As a recipient of the Human Rights Award from the NAACP, she dedicated herself to uplifting the economically disadvantaged, supporting the physically disabled, and aiding those struggling with addiction.

Her career in education spanned over two decades in the Nyack, NY school system. Through teaching arts and crafts, she encouraged students to explore their imaginations beyond conventional boundaries — leaving an enduring legacy of artistic expression and empowerment.

When Is It Available?

The scholarship is available every Spring for NC and NY residents. Reviewed by the Frances O. Smith Scholarship Committee. The open application date will be announced on the website.

All submissions must be received by the deadline. Late applications will not be considered.

Winner Announced — June 1st

Winner announced publicly. The decision of the awarding panel is final.

Virtual award ceremony honoring the scholarship recipient.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students aged 10 to 18 years old
  • Residents of Wake County, NC or Rockland County, NY
  • Enrolled in or actively pursuing an educational program
  • Online application with all required supporting documents
  • Applications accepted March 1 – May 1 each Spring
